Entrants will demonstrate a strong purpose and a clear vision for how their enterprise will create significant impact overall, using examples of specific investments that benefit people or the environment, including aims such as social equity, nature restoration and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. They will have a clear methodology on how they assess their impact, including the additional impact that is attributable to their investment and/or the impact of the company receiving investment.

The applicant must be a New Zealand registered organisation. It can be a wholesale or retail fund provider, government entity, social enterprise, not-for-profit enterprise, a collaboration or a commercial fund. The category includes green bond portfolios or programmes (but not a single green bond issue). This year for the first time, the criteria also allow for impact funds within asset owners such as trusts and foundations, charities and other institutionsThe initiative will either have made investments or have plans to launch in 2024.

Defining the approach of the fund

Describe the fund and the change that it is aiming to achieve, including: - The aim of the fund and the rationale for its strategic approach, including dynamics of the target investment market, an assessment of the opportunities, major assumptions and the key success factors - The process and criteria for selecting investments, and how they contribute to the aims - The research undertaken into the selection of investments - The scope, including the number of investments and scale of funding - The contribution from the fund to the enterprise, including type of funding, governance, advice or other forms of support Outline the expectations for financial risks and returns, including: - The fund aim for level of risk, returns and length of investment (eg. open or closed) - The hurdle rate of return for specific investments - The approach to trade-offs between impacts, risks and returns

Anticipated Impacts

Outline the anticipated benefits from specific social and/or environmental impacts, including target populations or ecosystems (you may want to send a report or website URL), including; - An overview of the fund as a whole - Selected examples of specific investments

Measuring the impact

Describe the ways that impact is measured at the level of each initiative and collectively across the fund, including: - The methodologies used to assess impact, including principles, processes and standards - The source of information used to calculate impact measures and any means for verification - An assessment of co-benefits, and any social and environmental risks

Reporting and Disclosure

Provide actual or planned levels of disclosure and public reporting including: - The targets for impact, quantified where possible - The form of reporting to investors and to the public

Capital raising for the fund

Describe past or planned capital raises for the enterprise, including: - Sources of funding, capital offers and summary of terms - Timing and pathway for capital raises in future

Examples of the key initiative(s) being funded

Provide examples of up to three key investments (for established funds) or examples of investments that are planned to be funded (for new funds).

- An administration fee of $150 + GST per award entry is charged. An invoice will be sent to the contact details submitted with the award entry and must be paid by 31st May 2024. - You may nominate your own business, or others. You do not have to be nominated in order to enter the awards. - All entrants must provide true and accurate information and disclose any liabilities such as business and/or tax related and/or current pending litigation, which could compromise the judges’ analysis of the business, and/or adversely affect the integrity and reputation of the Mindful Money Awards. - Mindful Money will not accept responsibility for errors or omissions reproduced in award publicity material, or for work lost or damaged. - Entrants should not make contact with the judges in order to lobby or promote their entry. - Judging will be based on the evidence provided in the initial entry. - Judges are required to declare any conflicts of interest. - Judges and Mindful Money staff sign a confidentiality agreement requiring that the information submitted will not be used for any other purpose than the judging process. - Once shortlisted within a category, supplementary information may be required. - Finalists and winners agree to being involved in publicity related to the awards, including photo and other media opportunities with sponsors, judges and Mindful Money staff. - A representative of category finalists must be available to attend the Awards ceremony at the Maritime Room in Auckland CBD on 14th June in person. - Mindful Money reserves the right and shall be permitted at all times to use at their discretion any material submitted for the Awards, on the Mindful Money website and in promotional and educational material for the purposes of generating awareness and publicity about the annual awards events.
